Scott grew up in the small town of Aberdeen in the Northeast part
of Mississippi. His first taste of southern gospel music was the Fifth
Street Quartet at the Fifth Street Baptist Church in Iuka, MS. Scott's
dad, Dale, sang bass with the group and Scott spent many Sunday evenings
after church playing as the group practiced. He never realized just
how much this would impact his life.
Scott finished up college at
Middle TN State University and settled in Nashville with his wife,
Dana. During college, he landed his "dream" job at Benson Music Group
which housed the RiverSong record label. This was significant because
this was the record label of many of the artists Scott grew up listening
to. He was now working with folks like J.D. Sumner, Gold City, Jeff
and Sheri Easter, Great Vision just to name a few. This was also where
he met up with Michael English and started a great friendship that he
still holds dear to this day.
Scott later went to work for
Michael and The Judds who had signed Michael to a management deal.
Scott worked out of the Judds' office and traveled with Michael for
several years handling many of the day to day aspects of Michael's
career.
After several years in Nashville, Scott and Dana moved
back to Mississippi where he went to work in the family business with
his dad and his brother, Todd.
Not long after moving home, Scott
felt the Lord leading him to start a solo ministry and stepping out on
faith, he began to sing whenever and wherever he could. It was apparent
the Lord was using Scott in a mighty way. During this time, Scott also
began to write. Teaming up with Daywind staff writer, Marty
Funderburk, he has had songs recorded by, Legacy Five, Brian Free and
Assurance and Allison Durham Speer among others. Scott's first song on
the Singing News Chart was "What Faith Does" by the Lesters. It reached
#20 on the national chart. After completing 2 CD projects, and singing
for a couple of years, Scott was given the opportunity to sing tenor
with The Masters Quartet from Booneville. He travelled and sang with
the Masters for a little over 2 years and made many great new friends a
long the way.
Upon leaving the Masters, Scott has once again
started his solo ministry but this time with a little help. He had felt
for some time that the Lord was leading him back into a solo ministry
and part of this was his daughter Carley. Carley is 13 yrs. old and has
been singing most of her life. She now goes to most concerts with her
dad and does several songs from her debut CD, "Can't Dream Big Enough."
Carley is a fan favorite wherever they go!
Scott still
continues to write and plans to continue singing with Carley wherever
the Lord allows. Scott also has a son, Dalton that is 9 years old, and
he has been known to sing a song or two with his dad as well from time
to time. Dalton says he likes to sing but he mostly handles "security"
for his dad and Carley!!!
Scott, Dana, Carley and Dalton are members of Friendship Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
